The Chinese Lunar New Year is the time of the year when all generations gather together and send their blessings verbally such as “恭喜发财” 、”身体健康”、”生意新龙”、”学业进步” etc. Red packets are also given, amount varies depending on how close you are to that person.
Of course we cannot miss out on the sumptuous food spread. For my family’s tradition, we’ll always visit my 4th Grandaunt & family on the 2nd day of LNY. In turn, they always prepare a wide array of lunch spread. Below are the food spread which will make one drool just by looking:
1. Lychee Duck
2. Shredded Chicken with Jellyfish & Ham
3. Sweet & Sour Fish
4. Fried Yam with Scallop / Tempura Ebi with Wasabi Mayo
5. Broccoli with Abalone
6. Braised Mushrooms & Chicken Feet
7. Fried Salmon Skin
8. Pork Belly with Egg Tofu
9. Achar
10. Seasoned Japanese Octopus
11. Fortune Soup (发菜汤)
After such a fulfilling lunch, next up will be a simple dinner since I am just too exhausted to cook after all the visiting.
1. 板面 Bian Mian
I have a very traditional baby who love the chinese ramen. Broth is normally created with pork bones boiled for hours. Added with vege, eggs and ikan
bilis (small fish).
2. Salted Egg Crab
This is the dry version of the salted egg crab whereby they deep-fry the crab till crisp before adding in crushed salted egg and chilli padi till the crab is well coated with the salted egg.
3. Sweet and Sour Pork
One of my favourite dish whereby they deep-dry the pork cubes till crisp and brown before adding in the sweet and sour sauce with capsicum, cucumber, onions and pineapple.
That’s all for today. Will update more LNY flavors soon. Hereby, wishing everyone a LNY fill with endless blessings and fortunes!
