Cooking is therapeutic for me and most importantly, I enjoy experimenting with my food based on what I have tasted, seen, and watched. Somehow, I still don’t like following steps by steps recipes. My grandmother cooks without recipes and her dishes are the BEST in this entire world to me. I love watching her cook and telling me how to cook without an exact measurement to each ingredient.

Today happens to be my lunar birthday and without fail, grandmother will always cook Mee Sua which represents longetivity and a blessing for me. This is a tradition that I would like to keep it ongoing for generations.

Lately, I have been experimenting with an East meet West approach to my recipes.

Steam Fish with Mixed Herbs

Ingredients:
1. 1 tsp of mixed herbs (rosemary, thyme, basil, bay leaves)
2. 1 tsp of light soya sauce
3. Threadfin
4. 2 tsp of broth (self-boiled with herbs)

My usual option would be to use old ginger slices which is a popular ingredient in chinese cooking.

Steam Minced Pork with Sunny Side Up

Ingredients:
1.100g-150g of minced pork
2. 3 shallots, sautéed
3. 1ml of cinnamon
4. 1ml of mixed herbs
5. 1 tbsp of chopped celery
6. 1 tsp of light soya sauce
7. Sea Salt & Pepper
8. 1 egg

Bittergourd Omelette

Ingredients:
1. 2 eggs
2. 1 tsp of light soya sauce
3. Salt & Pepper

This week, I learn something about bittergourd which probably many did may not realized. Unriped bittergourd’s seeds are white, whereas riped bittergourd are red. There are just so many new things I am discovering each day about food.

Herbal Soup

Ingredients:
1. Red dates
2. Wolfberry (Gou Ji Zi)
3. Codonopsis (Dang Shen)
4. Dried Scallops
5. Dried Oysters

Different chinese herbs are used to help improve the health. If you are uncertain what is best for your condition, you can always drop by any chinese herb stores and get advices. Alternatively, there are ready pack herbs in supermarkets which state the use and cooking method.

Nacho Cheese Fries

Ingredients:
1. Potato (Peeled and sliced into stripes)
2. Japanese mayo
3. Ready made nacho cheese

You rarely see fried food in my dishes. I think this is the first since it is specially requested by the hubby. Am glad that he enjoyed it.

Many friends of mine rarely cook as they find it a hasty. Actually, cooking can be easy if you know how. As I cook, I actually start to take less time to cook a spread (Inspired by Jamie Oliver’s 30 mins meals). So stop giving excuses and start cooking today!!
